From the Hearth: How Raven & Hearth Began
Welcome to the Hearth
My name is Katie Fink, and I am the founder of Raven & Hearth Home Services.
The past two years of my life have consisted of a lot of change—and if you’re anything like me, change can feel a little intimidating when you thought you had most things figured out.
After years of working a demanding career in retail management, going to school full-time, and caring for my husband and son, our family found ourselves being called into a very different season. My husband’s grandmother was beginning to decline and needed additional support. Knowing his family needed us, we packed up our lives in Louisville, Kentucky, and moved to Cumming, Georgia.
For the past two years, we lived alongside her, cooking, cleaning, helping with daily life, and caring for her as her dementia progressed. Unfortunately, she passed away a couple of weeks ago, bringing with it—you guessed it—even more change. But in many ways, this is also where the story of Raven & Hearth begins, and I’m excited that you get to be a part of it.
One thing about me is that I have never been very good at staying still. I love being busy, both physically and mentally. While I was incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to care for Grandma and step away from the constant pace of the retail world, I also found myself searching for ways to stay active and feel useful outside of our home.
There are only so many times you can clean your own house, after all.
So, somewhere along the way, I started cleaning other people’s homes while continuing to care for my family and Grandma. And something unexpected happened: I loved it.
I found so much joy and fulfillment in being able to bring a little peace into someone else’s life—whether they were overwhelmed, short on time, or simply wanted some help keeping their space feeling like home.
Then other opportunities began to come along. I started running errands for people, providing behind-the-scenes support for other small businesses, helping with the little tasks that make everyday life run more smoothly, and, of course, continuing to make sure Grandma was comfortable, cared for, and safe.
After her passing, I naturally began asking myself, “What’s next?”
And I realized that I wasn’t necessarily looking for something completely new. I wanted work that fulfilled me mentally, physically, and spiritually.
I wanted to do what I was already doing.
What I was doing was not only supporting my own family, but giving other people more time for theirs as well. By helping with the smaller, everyday pieces of life, I was giving others the space to focus on the things that mattered most. Families were able to take vacations while I supported their businesses, caregivers could take much-needed time for themselves, and others were able to find a little more peace and tranquility within the walls of their homes.
That idea of care—quiet, practical, and dependable—is also what led me back to a verse that has carried me through some of the hardest seasons of my life.
“Consider the ravens; they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds!” Luke 12:24
Like it has for so many of us, life has been hard at times. My family and I have walked through a house fire that took nearly everything we owned, car accidents, job loss, miscarriage, and other difficult seasons that seemed to keep coming one after another.
Through it all, this verse has stayed close to my heart. It reminds me that God is present even in the uncertainty, and that if He cares so deeply for the birds in the sky, how much more does He care for us? Time and time again, I have seen His provision and care in ways both big and small.
That is the heart I wanted to bring into Raven & Hearth. I wanted to carry the love and care God has shown my family into this business—to serve others with thoughtfulness, compassion, and attention in everything I do.
For me, Raven & Hearth is more than a business. It is an opportunity to help lighten someone else’s load, bring a little peace into their home, and care for the small things, so they have more room for the things that matter most.
As Raven & Hearth grows, I hope it becomes known for more than simply the services we provide. I hope it becomes a name people associate with trust, kindness, dependability, and genuine care. Life can be busy, unpredictable, and sometimes just plain overwhelming—and none of us were meant to carry every little thing alone. If Raven & Hearth can take even one thing off your plate, give you a little more time with the people you love, or help your home feel a little more peaceful, then I believe we are doing exactly what we were created to do. I’m so grateful you’re here at the very beginning, and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes us.
